Welcome to the Parish Park of Linghurst Lakes
Linghurst Lakes was actually handed over to Lound Parish Council by Tarmac in January 2004.
The restoration of the quarried areas was a condition of Tarmac being allowed to quarry this area near the village and the handover fund was required as a consequence. Nottinghamshire County Council approved and monitored the scheme and when it had been completed satisfactorily by Tarmac it was handed over to the Parish to maintain in perpetuity.
The Linghurst Lakes Sub Committee set up in late 2002, an offshoot of the Parish Council, manages the park on behalf of the Parish Council. This Sub-Committee consists of 6 parishioners, including a minimum of two serving Parish Councillors.
Management of the park has to follow a Management Plan, which was proposed by Tarmac, accepted by The County Council and passed on to the Parish Council as part of the contract on handover.
The area, although there is some emphasis on it being a nature reserve, is seen by the Parish Council as a “Nice place for Parishioners to Walk.”
